  • Transfer to the charming coastal village of Paraty
  • Check into hotel
  • Dinner daily

DAY 3: PARATY

  • Breakfast daily
  • Enjoy a walking tour of the historic city center of Paraty. Nestled between the lush mountains and the tranquil bay, Paraty has been able to maintain many of its historical buildings with much of the architecture of the city remaining the same as it was 250 years ago
  • Concert
  • Overnight Paraty

DAY 4: PARATY

  • Enjoy an excursion to a quilombo community. These settlements were first established by African slaves who escaped from plantations in Brazil. We will learn about the history of the descendants of these slaves, their struggle and resistance, their culture, art, and gastronomy
  • Lunch
  • Return to Paraty
  • Participate in a capoeira workshop. Developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil in the 16th century, capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music
  • Overnight Paraty

DAY 5: RIO DE JANEIRO

  • Transfer to Rio de Janeiro
  • Check into hotel
  • Enjoy beach activities and interaction with locals (tbd)
  • Dinner with the local students
  • Overnight Rio de Janeiro

DAY 6: RIO DE JANEIRO

  • Take the cogwheel railway up Corcovado Mountain through the Tijuca National Park to the base of the famous Christ the Redeemer statue which overlooks the city with open arms

DAY 7: RIO DE JANEIRO

  • Visit a local street market and see unusual fruits and vegetables of the local cuisine
  • Enjoy a guided walking tour of Rio's Botanical Gardens to witness and learn about Brazil's lush flora
  • Concert
  • Overnight Rio de Janeiro

DAY 8: RIO DE JANEIRO

  • Enjoy a guided tour of some of Rio's iconic sites including the November 15 Square, the unique cone-shaped Metropolitan Cathedral, and the colorful tiles of the Selarón Steps
  • Visit one of the city’s samba school production sites at the Cidade do Samba complex to see where the elaborate floats and colorful costumes are produced for the annual samba parade held each year during Carnival
  • Farewell dinner at a churrascaria, a Brazilian barbecue where freshly cooked meats are served from large skewers
  • Overnight Rio de Janeiro

DAY 9: RIO DE JANEIRO & DEPARTURE

  • Visit Sugarloaf Mountain featuring the cable car ride to the top for a panoramic view of the city
  • Transfer to the airport to begin your journey home
